allofuslost: I’ve got one theory about Sherlock’s trick. John took Sherlock’s pulse and thought he was dead. How did he managed to fool John, a trained army doctor, on that? During the show, a clue was laid. The fourth substance from the kidnapper’s footprint was Rhododendron ponticum. Grayanotoxin is a toxin extracted from Rhododendron ponticum and one of its symptom is slowed heartbeat. The film Sherlock Holmes(2009) also utilizes this chemical to fake Blackwood’s death. “I’ve been online and looked at all the theories,” Moffat told us, “and there’s one clue that everyone’s missed. It’s something that Sherlock did that was very out of character, but which nobody has picked up on.” What did Sherlock do that is very out of his character? He cried, and well, sniffed.
